Not only have we undertaken the most ambitious transit expansion program in the country with FasTracks, but we continue to invest in other capital projects to enhance the quality of service provided to our passengers each and every day. Bus Stop Consolidation

As traffic continues to worsen across the Denver metro area, RTD makes changes to our bus and rail system that are necessary in order to provide the most productive and efficient transit system for our passengers and the communities we serve. We have started consolidating bus stops that are underutilized or bus stops that are within close proximity to other bus stops.

Regional Bus Rapid Transit Feasibility Study

Regional Bus Rapid Transit Feasibility Study

RTD has partnered with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) to conduct the Regional Bus Rapid Transit Feasibility Study. The study will explore opportunities to implement bus rapid transit service throughout the region to address growing travel demand and support current and future RTD FasTracks projects.

Quality of Life Study

While much of the emphasis of the FasTracks Program is on design and construction of new rapid transit, the RTD Board also recognized the need to track progress toward these core goals. RTD initiated the Quality of Life (QofL) Study to identify, track and measure how the FasTracks Program achieves the adopted goals over time.

The metro area ranks among the nation’s most livable communities, but also one of the most congested. With the opening of the W and R light rail lines, and the University of Colorado A and B commuter rail lines, RTD’s next priority is to address the transportation needs and ease congestion in the northern communities with bus rapid transit along State Highway 119.

Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility

In July 2015, RTD opened a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly maintenance facility for the new commuter rail vehicles, which serve the A Line (East Rail Line) and the B Line (Northwest Rail Line). Approximately 240 mechanics, operators and other staff will work out of this innovative, LEED Gold certified building.

16th Street Mall Transit-way Analysis

Since its construction nearly 30 years ago, the Mall’s aging infrastructure has reached its design life span and updates and/or maintenance are needed to ensure the Mall’s continued success. Pedestrian and mall vehicle safety and the significant cost of maintenance have led to the consideration of replacing the transit-way (travel lanes) with an alternative surface.

Boulder Junction at Depot Square Station Development

This 160-acre redevelopment area in Boulder is a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented neighborhood with regional transit connections and public spaces that will benefit the community for years to come. The new Boulder Junction Station, an underground bus facility, opened on August 16, 2015.
